Since a new fireplace (preferably a gas insert) is not in our budget right now, I HAD to do something to make this fireplace tolerable and somewhat compatible with our decor without breaking the bank. Thank you Rustoleum spray paint!

I used Rustoleum's High Heat black spray paint:
The whole project (including taping it off) took about an hour. I LOVE how much better it looks.

As far as the scrapbook paper, I just placed a single piece of tape at the top to hold it!

I'm really late, but I'm so glad someone has proven that this can be done! We have that brass fireplace insert, too. (The hubs always has an excuse why we can't change it.) Is your fireplace woodburning? Does that matter? Thanks for the tutorial!
Hi Kim, It doesn't look like there is an e-mail address or blog profile connected to your comment so hopefully you get this. Our fireplace is wood burning. We never use it but the spray paint can says it is safe to use even on barbecues. I don't know for sure, but I would think that a barbecue would get hotter than the outside of the fireplace. I hope that helps!
